That would depend on which version of Word the recipient has. OpenOffice can save to Word formats as far back as Word 6. However, someone with the current version of Word may have problems with it. On the other hand, if you saved in Word XP format, someone with Word 6 couldn't use it. So, as long as you select the proper Word version, the recipients will be OK. In this respect, OpenOffice is superior to Word in that it can read & write all versions of Word formats from Word 6 to XP, which no version of Word can do. Also, if the recipients will only be reading and not modifying the documents, you might want to send them PDF's, which OpenOffice can also create.
