[users] Open Office disappears from dock and has to be reinstalled

I installed open office and everytime I return to the computer, the  
icon in the dock has the "?" on it and I have to reinstall open  
office. What am I doing wrong? doesn't it work like firefox etc where  
when I'm done I drop  the icon in the trash off the desktop? Or did  
it install to the desktop.......hmmmmmmm
