Thanks so much for the encouragement and example! I thought I'd installed the font correctly but could not see it in OO. At your suggestion I tried installing again and was notified the font was already installed. I clicked on it in \windows\fonts and, sure enough, it displayed. I then went back to OO and this time when I looked in the font list the font was there! The font is 'Windsong' version: Macromedia Fontographer. It's display in the OO font list was so thin that I had completely overlooked. By squinting a bit I detected it.

I truly appreciate the response of 'web cracked'. It was timely, supportive and more than sufficient to put me back on track. I was also highly encouraged to find OO to be an even wiser choice of office product than I had suspected. I hope to return the favor some day. By the way, any advice as to good font sources or warnings would be also welcome. :o)

How did you install the fonts?
What do you mean "OpenOffice doesn't use these font"?
Do you see the fonts in your folder or is it a linked font?
All fonts to be installed must use the "copy to font folder"
option, so the font in the windown\fonts folder are there
and not a linked font that has an arrow on the icon.

I have a few Caligraphy styles of fonts on my computer.
I installed them by from the windows\fonts folder
and click on File\Install New Fonts
and make sure the "Copy fonts to the Font folder"
option is checked.

I have on my computer a set of folders that contain
over 100,000 fonts. I have 933 fonts installed in my
windows\fonts folder. Many are calligraphy style fonts
and other decorative styles of fonts. I have old world
styles and handwriting styles. ALL work with OpenOffice.

So how about sending information about the font you
downloaded and tried. I will download the same font and
install on my XP/pro laptop which I have the OOo 2.2 installed.
I can also install it on a XP/home machine as well.

Give me the info and I will do what I can to help you.

Subject: [users] Adding fonts to OO2

I am running OpenOffice 2.1 under Windows XP Pro and wish to acquire more fonts, like caligraphy styles. I downloaded one I liked and installed it to \windows\fonts but discovered that OpenOffice doesn't use these fonts. I then tried File|Wizards|Install Fonts from Web but could not find a suitable font there. Do I have other alternatives??
