Are you sure that the 'icon' is an icon?
I think, that's the folder (and it's symbol), where the downloaded
*.exe is unpacked (something like 'OpenOffice.org 2.2 install files').
Please try with Start -> All programs -> OpenOffice.org 2.2 ->
OpenOffice.org Writer. So OpenOffice.org (OOo) will start ...
(The context menu - right click - of every module has an entry like
'Send to ...'; there choose 'Desktop' - and you'll have an icon on
desktop to start OOo).
I have Windows XP and I have Java on my computer.
[My WinXP version is in German language, so I don't know the exact
English terms.]
