Ian, the version you are running is actually an "Ubuntu'ized" version of
OOo. That OOo has been modifed by Ubuntu and is not exactly the same as
the version from http://openoffice.org.

I recommend that you do two things:

1. File an Ubuntu bug on launchpad:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/openoffice/+bugs

2. If you feel ambitious; install OOo 2.2 directly from the
http://openoffice.org files. You can search this list on how to do so,
or let me know and I'll be happy to send you instructions directly.

Also have a look at the bug that I filed some time ago regarding the
