File associations for the Mac: (courtesy of Guy Volt)

To change the icon (i.e. with which program to open a certain file 
type):
• highlight one of these files (e.g. a *.doc file)
• Apple-I will open the File Info
• 5th trangle = Open with
• Choose OpenOffice 2.2 (or whatever version you have (if OOo isn't in
the droplist, chose Other and find OOo in the Applications folder)
• Click on Change All to have OOo open all files of this type.
Now the icon of all these files should change to the OOo icon
