Thanks for that, but.............
I cannot gain access (with a small 'a'!) to the Access files on HD, but
in Properties it is showing that Read-only is not selected. And I
cannot remove the RO from the CD. Do you have any further suggestions?
The files were treated in exactly the same way as a new one that I have
created and which opens without problem. They were then copied to the
CD. I have not had this problem before.
Hope you can help further.

Maybe you forgot that all files from CD are Read Only (RO), even if
you copy them to the Hard Drive (HD). On the HD you have to remove
the RO.
nor successfully import it to My Documents. The file appears to
have been copied over but I still cannot open it. I get a
message: "Unrecognised Database Format C:\Documents and
Settings\John\My Documents\submissions.mdb" for example.
The Read Only may also cause this problem, as it does with a RO
*.pst file for Outlook. Outlook just complains and then on OK it
just closes.
