Hi Clifford,
One thing to watch out for: During the installation, you'll be presented with a dialogue asking if you want Openoffice.org to be the default application for opening Microsoft Office files. Since you're testing the software, you won't want to check any of the boxes. You'll still be able to open MSO files in OOo by using 'file / open' or by dragging and dropping them onto an open OOo window.

I was getting ready to download OpenOffice for installation on my home
computer, as a way of test driving it prior to installing on my daughters new
computer. Then I thought, are they compatible on the same system? Would I
have to create an OpenOffice partition or anything like that?

Thank you for your time and attention.

OpenOffice and MS Office will co-exist on the same Windows installation.
