What do you have now, instead of OpenOffice.org? MS Office?

Oddly enough my new computer, running on Vista Home Edition, accepts Lotus 123 spreadsheets but will not load Wordpro, choosing to display "programe not responding instead" Will I have better luck if I download "Open Office" as I've got hundreds of WP files that I need to access? Many thanks.
