Holly,

Yes, Impress opens PowerPoint presentations without any special effort
on your part - with the exception of files created in the new PowerPoint
2007.  PowerPoint, on the other hand, does not read Impress
presentations in the default Open Document Format.  However, Impress can
easily save your presentation in Microsoft's format so that you can open
it in PowerPoint.  Just use File>Save As... and then in the Save As
dialog box where it says File Type choose Microsoft Office 97/2000/XP.

Be aware that the conversions between the two programs are not always
perfect - some formatting may change.  But in general, especially for
simpler PowerPoint documents, the conversion is very good.
