I purchased Open Office Pro for $11.95 from your site.
Just for your information, OpenOffice is free to download from
Openoffice.org.

If you purchased OpenOffice.org, you paid a 3rd party provider for the
software (and possibly extra support or other software bundled with the
version of OpenOffice.org they provided you)
However, the main reason I wanted this is because I have
Microsoft Word 6 documents (.wps) which I wish to open. They
are stored on my external hard drive.
.wps documents are not Microsoft Word 6 documents, they are Microsoft
Works documents. Microsoft Works formatted documents are not the same
as Microsoft Word. OpenOffice cannot directly open Works documents.
Chapter 14 (page 462) of the OpenOffice.org user guide suggests a
solution that you can use for now.

This is also mentioned in the OpenOffice.org FAQ at:
http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/FAQ:Writer:DocumentManagement
A Microsoft Works import filter has been developed, and will likely be
added to a future release of OpenOffice.
For everyone's reference, adding a .wps file filter was tracked under
issue 8938. http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=8938
