My reading of the Microsoft download page is that they're offering a
filter for Microsoft Office that will allow their users of older
versions of Office to open and save in the 2007 formats.

Actually I'm just going off what I am reading, not what the program
does. My main computer is a Linux machine. I have a lapper that runs
Windows, so I may test that later. But what I am reading looks more
like a simple converter to a previous format than a filter that
OpenOffice can actually use.
