You didn't have to pay for it.  It's available for free from
www.openoffice.org.  You'll have to talk to whoever you paid, for help
with your son's copy.

Please note there are some people who sell a CD of OpenOffice for a
nominal amount and provide a service for those without broadband
internet.  There are others who charge much more and may offer more. 
And there are some, who charge for a download and if they offer nothing
beyond that, i.e. support etc., then I consider them scum.

Regardless, OpenOffice is always available for free download and for
various operating systems.
