For some compatibility issues among my writing group, strong preference for .rtf files. And it looks like openoffice doesn't actually use rtf... it inserts an amazing amount of formatting information... bloating it worse than any word document I've ever seen. I wouldn't have noticed this, but one fellow saw it as changing to all caps (with larger letters for the actual caps) every other paragraph.
Looking at the raw data, it looks like your product is proving less efficient than msword. Which is quite a feat... but it's also lying to the user about saving as .rtf when it's instructed to. I can't have a program that's claiming to do something it isn't. And something as simple as producing rich text format... oy. I wish you luck in your project... with hidden incomplete features like this, you're going to need a lot of luck.
