Hi,

I am having some trouble using the mail merge function of OpenOffice 2.0
to send emails.

I did some searching on the web and in the OO mailing list archive but
did not find anything related to the problem I am seeing.

What I did is to setup the Outgoing email server under

  Tools -> Options... -> OpenOffice.org Writer -> Mail Merge E-mail

After hitting the "Test Settings..." button right away a window pops up,
showing two tasks that failed:

- Establish network connection - failed
- Find outgoing mail server - failed

As fast as this failure shows up, it looks to me that there is never a
request going out over the network. Actually, looking at the LAN switch
when hitting the button, shows no activity on the network.

I have the same behavior on OpenOffice 2.0.0.1 under Suse 10.0 i586 and
2.0.4.7 under openSuse 10.2 x86_64.

Is there some other setup that I have to do in order to use this?

I found an explanation about the need to setup mailmerge.py in this
document:

But had some problems with finding the "EMailSupported" entry in my
Writer.xcu.

I would appreciate if anybody could give me some advice on how to solve
this.
