Hi,
I'm really sorry to trouble you - don't know where to go with this
problem: I am new to OO and every time I start OO (Mac OSX 10.4
using X11) I get the following message when X11 starts up:
unknown-00-1b-63-0a-35-a8:~ michaelfalter$ (my name is Michael Falter)
Any help would be gratefully received
Thanks,
Michael Falter

I assume that the right call is
./soffice -env:UserInstallation=file:///home/michele/.openoffice.org2
(Mind the URL notation!)
in case /home/michele is your home directory. Don't add the "/
user" at
the end!
On Windows this would be
soffice
-env:UserInstallation=file:///c:/documents%20and%20settings/
michele/Application%20data/OpenOffice.org2
or where ever your profile is (again without the "user" in the name).
Please again mind the URL notation. In this notation blanks, non-
ascii
characters and a few more characters have to be encoded in a special
way, blanks e.g. convert to "%20". To make things easier you cut
put you
"alternative" profiles into folders that don't contain such
characters.
Example:
soffice -env:UserInstallation=file:///c:/OpenOffice.org/profile1
If you start OOo with this command line you should see the welcome
wizard and afterwards a folder "c:\openoffice.org\profile1\user" that
contains your profile.
Please also mind that file URLs always use slashes, no backslashes as
Windows file names.
Of course you don't need any "-env" to access the default profiles, I
just took them as examples.
Ciao,
Mathias

Please don't reply to "[EMAIL PROTECTED]".
I use it for the OOo lists and only rarely read other mails sent
to it.

Got it!
I knew I was doing some really naive mistake :-)
Anyway, I will get on now and create my three profiles...
Thanks a lot Mathias (and NoOp, and Harold and Jon of course!)
Cheers,
Michele
