That's true, but unlike the majority of mailing lists, this list is primarily the main support/help-desk function for "All" users of OOo. There are other sources (eg. forums, wikis, etc.), but this list is where the OOo site directs users to go for answers to questions they are unable (maybe unwilling) to locate elsewhere. > However, I'm not likely to check the headers on every post I reply > to, and imo, folks that want help from the list should join it. Obviously, it is your choice whether or not you check the headers, but I assume Forte Agent has filtering capabilities which would enable you to readily identify specific header details, without manually reading through the entire header. With regard to your opinion that all OOo users should subscribe, many non-subscribed posters have very limited computer skill or knowledge and are unlikely to understand anything about a mailing list. Additionally, why would we want to subject a user, who wanted an answer to one simple question, to a barrage of 100's of emails every day. The fact that you take the time and effort to reply, suggests that you are someone who is willing to help others, which is what this list is all about. Namely, supporting and assisting "All" OOo users. Posting an answer to a question from a non-subscribed user without cc'ing them, is a bit like writing a letter and posting it in the garbage can. > If you wish to forward replies, that's fine, though you needn't > clutter the list by telling me you're doing it. Many of us are subscribed to this list primarily to answer, not ask, questions. I believe (not sure) that Dan is one of the list moderators and he frequently picks up and forwards those answers that have not been sent to the original non-subscribed poster. If Dan did not notify the list that he has provided this non-obligatory service, then others (myself included) would be wasting our time repeating what he had already done. I do understand your point, but that is not the intention or reason for this list's existence. If the list were to follow your proposed policy, how would the average, everyday (non-technical) user get direct support? I have my own views on the answer to that question, but that's an issue for another time and thread. Dave
