If you don't have Word installed, OpenOffice should be associated with
Word files. It will also be, if you have Word installed and you told
OpenOffice, during install, to be the default app for Word files. In
this case, just double click on a Word file and OpenOffice should start
up, using that file. In any even, you can always open OpenOffice and
select File > Open (or use CTL-O) to locate and open the desired file.
