Have a look at File -> Templates -> Organize

Double-click on a folder on the left to view the names of any templates in it. Double-click on a template to see the names of all styles (tip: they're ordered by style type). Double-click on an open document on the right to see the names of all styles in the document. Drag a style from the document to the template to propagate changes.

Thanks, I'll try it out.

PS. Ideally, you shouldn't be doing that much style editing while you're writing a document. I try to create the template, write the documents, then modify the template.

That was the way I set out to do it, but I got a little distracted. I'm still in the early stages of creating the document, so I still find that I need a new style for new types of elements. I've been using Lyx for some time, but found it a bit too cumbersome in the end. So back to OOo.

Thanks for the (almost instant) reply!
