Trying to install version 2.2.1 on a fresh new Windows ME system. This system had to be rebuilt using Windows Setup, which means that there are no prior versions of OpenOffice on this machine. After installing machine specific drivers and running Windows Update (as of 6/23/2007) it was time to install OpenOffice.
The downloaded file seemed to perform the unpack successfully but when the setup program started (either automatically as on the first try or manually on subsequent tries) the following messages appeared in dialog boxes - 1. The first message says, "This package requires a newer version of the Windows Installer. Do you want to update the version of Windows Installer on your system?" If you respond "NO" setup terminates. 2. If you respond "YES" you receive an error message saying, "The specified service already exists.". 3. When you press he "OK" button you get another dialog box which says, "Setup was unable to find the file.".
