You can also individually split rows and columns with the mouse. To split rows, hold and drag with the left mouse button when pointer is over the small black bar at the top of the left hand scroll bar. To split columns, hold and drag with the left mouse button when pointer is over the small black bar at the right hand end of the bottom scroll bar. Easier to do than to explain.
