This is a usage of the Users list question:
I've noticed people forwarding threads to unsubscribed original posters. What
is the indiciation that someone is subscribed/unsubscribed? The
presence/absence of the "To unsubscribe, email:..." blurb at the bottom of the
message?

No. The "To unsubscribe, email:..." blurb is a point of information that
appears on the bottom of *all* messages sent by the list server.
The only reliable way to tell if the poster is un/subscribed is to look
at the "Delivered-To:" e-mail header.
If and only if there is a "Delivered-To: moderator for
[email protected]" header then the poster is *not* subscribed. Parse
that carefully ;-) The converse is true too: if and only if there is no
"Delivered-To: moderator for [email protected]" then the poster is
subscribed.
In some *mail* readers (Thunderbird, for example) one can filter on this
header and thus have messages from unsubscribed posters flagged in some
way. Note that Thunderbird's *news* reader cannot do this.
