We are trying to move from microsoft office 2000 to openoffice.
We get data from a as400 and drop it via perl oodoc into openoffice
documents.
It works quite well and fast.
The last feature we need to replace are templates . We use a lot of
templates in word were we put data from a as400 in
In the past with microsoft office we dropped the data from the as400 in
little rtf files
example : name goes in name.rtf
adres goes in adres.rtf
customer number goes in cusnr.rtf
then we made a template where we inserted the rtf files on the right places
and connected the files (coupled)
so that when the rtf files change the template changes
and oops you push a little button an the as400 screen and you can make a
letter to the customer.
we have more than 100 templates with letters to the customer
When i open these templates in openoffice i can not change them an the name
and adres are not printed out.
when i try to insert rtf files in openoffice they always use my full wide
of the page and when i make them smaller
the text goes smaller.
Is this a good way to proceed
or is there a better way to dump data into templates.
I only need name ,adres, customer number, code, testvalue
[...]
One direction:
Default functionality in OOo with data-sources.
- When you define a datasource (File|New|Database) you can choose for
example a csv file.
- In any document/template you can add fields from that datasource.
- Thus when the csv-file is changed and the datasource is refreshed, and
the fields in the doc are updated, there you are.
- Edit|Datasources (F4) is the window to be. Things can be automated.
I'm not sure about the conditions in wich refresh of the datasource will
be instant. Nor if the possible use of few hundred of datasources will
have negative impact.
I hope this gives a nice direction. There is also
[EMAIL PROTECTED], where all dba-cracks gather.
Fully different direction:
Insert|Section ... and link that to a file.
Can be updated via Edit|Links.
Needs another direction at the perl side> create odf files.
