Congratulations... your friend most likely has introduced you to the
practice of running illegal sofware. Que the black helicopters and skip
the sermon regarding what you and your friend have just done - I think
that perhaps you know already...

Good. The black helicopters are circling.

I suggest that you and your friend try to go the 'legal' route and
either: 1) properly pay for and license MS Publisher etc., or 2) (better
yet) give up the attempt to figure out how to run your illegal software
and instead simply download and install OpenOffice.

You can't open MS Publisher files from anything but MS Publisher; even
other MS Office et al programs can't do this. MS Publisher is a closed,
proprietary format and the best that you can do from it is "edit" some
text in a MS Publisher document in MS Word.

Why don't you let the list know what you and your (perhaps illegal)
friend are trying to do in MS Publisher, and we can perhaps tell you how
to do it in OpenOffice or in other 'real' desktop publishing software.
Are you trying to create a newsletter, brochure, flyer, similar?

It's also helpful if you include the following:

1. Operating system (Windows XP/Vista, Linux kernel xyz distro abc)
2. System CPU & memory (aka: 1.2Ghz Pentium/512Mb ram)
3. What version of OOo do you have you installed if any?
