I am looking for a way to create cockpit charts, also called ring charts?
These things where you show e.g. how many people are sitting in the
senate?
Someone told me in Excel there I can do this by just selecting such a
chart
type, but in OpenOffice I do not have such sort of chart. Do I can emulate
it with a circle diagram somehow? haven't found a how to do this yet, any
hints?

There are ring charts in calc. Have a look under "pies" main chart type,
then "rings" sub type.
