Impress is the PowerPoint equivalent in OpenOffice. However, it is not a stand
alone program. You must download the entire OpenOffice Suite at
http://www.openoffice.org/. If you're on dialup (56k or less), the download
will take in excess of 8 hours, the amount of time some ISPs will disconnect
you after. So, you will be better off sending for the CD. Or, you can look in
some computer magazines that offer CDs; OpenOffice is often available there for
the price of the magazine. You may need to disable your anti-virus software
prior to installation.

Once you have installed OpenOffice and have created your presentation in
Impress, be sure to save a version of it in PowerPoint format if you will be
giving your presentation via a computer with Microsoft software (PowerPoint).
Please be aware that some of the tasks are called somewhat differently in
OpenOffice than PowerPoint. Before you get started, please look at the Help in
Impress and also review the options on the menu bar. Global parameters are
accessed through OPTIONS on the TOOLS menu.

If you have additional questions, just ask.

  Hello everyone:

I have a basic knowledge of what open source is and my question reflects how
basic. In any case, the question is: is Impress like power point and how do I
install it. I need to prepare a presentation and don't have power point. thank
you!!
