Hi I am using Calc [ OpenOffice.org (v2.0.2) ] running under W2k.
I wish to rank order some data (which is basically easy I know using the function RANK) but my problem introduces a twist to this and I can't find how to solve it. In a Calc spreadsheet, I am recording ticket sales data from a number of shows and want to rank order the sales figures as the days pass in order of (a) number of tickets sold, and (b) sales revenue. The data is entered into the spreadsheet daily and is automatically totalled to give 'close of business' totals. It is the totals which I wish to rank. For example ... At close of business on day 1 suppose the total figs are ... Showname Sales Showname Revenue Show 1 5 Show 1 40 Show 2 8 Show 2 80 Show 3 10 Show 3 100 That's easy, they're all in the correct order anyway and line themselves without any intervention from me. But, suppose on day 2 these have changed to ... Showname Sales Showname Revenue Show 1 12 Show 1 96 Show 2 8 Show 2 80 Show 3 10 Show 3 100 I want to rank order the data as follows ... Showname Sales Showname Revenue Show 2 8 Show 2 80 Show 3 10 Show 1 96 Show 1 12 Show 3 100 What I want is for the daily changes in the total figures to make the rank ordering change automatically and keep the correct showname at the same time. On the numerical data I can use the function SMALL to do the numerical part of the task on each column (Sales, Revenue). But, as I say, I need the shownames to accompany any moves in the rankings otherwise it's a dog's breakfast. That is my problem. I need to find a way of linking the alphabetical entries in the Showname columns to the corresponding data in Sales and Revenue so that all move 'in step'. Can anyone give me any pointers? Cheers jb :) --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
