I loaded the program last night - the full suite. All seems well. However, I
cannot find thespot where to launch Word and create my first Word document.

Word is a Microsoft program. What you downloaded is (probably, since
you're mailing to this list) OpenOffice.org. The text processor part
of OOo is called Write. You can make your first text document using
Write. Good luck!
