My original question: Have just downloaded OpenOffice, but cannot use it.
The only application I can find is Program/python-core-2.3.4/python.exe. But this fails to start as it cannot find python23.dll. It recommends re-installing. Is this the right answer? Alan Frayer replied: Jim, you didn't say which operating system you are installing to (or any other variables), so it is difficult to be specific in addressing your needs. It looks like you may have been able to extract the package, but haven't actually run the setup executable. If you can tell us more about your environment and the steps you took to get to this point, someone experienced in installing to that environment may be able to help you. Thank, Alan, for your prompt reply. I'm using Windows XP. I've installed OpenOffice in WINDOWS\Program Files\OpenOffice. A Search revealed that python23.dll did exist, but in OpenOffice\Program, Not in OpenOffice\Program\python-core\bin where python.exe was placed. However, I don't really believe that python is the application I ought to be starting. I've re-downloaded and re-installed OpenOffice in WINDOWS\Program Files. The original I'd renamed OpenOffice, the newer one is OpenOffice.org2.2. Following the on-line instructions for Windows XP, I get to step 11: Click the Finish button when the Installation Wizard Finish window is displayed. That's as far as I can go... SORRY... I didn't understand step 12. It's only just dawned on me to use the WINDOWS Start button, And open the Programs page Everything seems OK. Can even see OpenOffice Draw, the package that first caught my attention. However it seems to be limited in its types of input and output. I'll need to test it further. Many thanks for your attention. Sorry to have troubled you.
