Unfortunately, when I tried this a while back it worked for that one document, but didn't affect any other documents of the same filetype.

I found a free Mac OS X app, RCDefaultApp (http://tinyurl.com/2epm4n) which lets you change all sorts of application defaults on your system.

BTW, are you using OpenOffice or NeoOffice on your MacBook? I didn't realise OpenOffice for Mac OS X was ready for prime time yet.
