Thanks to Johnny, Adrian, and Brian. In any case it is a pain because
we actually generate the CSV file from the application. The default
precision was the easy one. It does appear that you have to select the
individual cells for the dates, which are surrounded by other fields,
but are few and can easily be fixed in a text editor if they are
missed. The precision was the most important. I did try Swedish, but
yy-mm-dd is as bad as the other formats.

I still think it should be possible to set the language to "International".
That would cause the date format to be set to YYYY-MM-DD by default
since that is international standard (ISO 8601). If you want to solve your
problem by just selecting a language that happens to have the same date
format, I can recommend Swedish/Sweden or Swedish/Finland. I suppose there
are many other options as well. However, you still have to select the long
format for all the cells, since standard seems to be YY-MM-DD rather than
YYYY-MM-DD.
Maybe creating a style with the proper settings is the best way after all.
Or maybe a template with the style included. The template can of course open
OpenOffice.org with a new document ready, based on the template, by just
being double clicked, but I guess that's obvious.

Hi Jerry
I have an application that requires dates in yyyy-mm-dd format. I can
easily change the date format for individual cells, but is there a way
to globally tell calc to set the default date format to yyyy-mm-dd.
The easiest way to do this would be to create a style with that particular
date formatting.
If you'd like more details, please ask.

I understand you pain with date formats and locale. In Linux, it isn't
easy to change the locale if you are in a country that someone decides
doesn't want to use ISO dates. There are no easy ways to change the
default date format as in Windows.
There is an open issue on this matter.
