It depends...
1. Why do you try OpenOffice? Not happy with MS Office 2000?
Try OO.o first - before you eventually delete MS O. /(In case you
dislike OO.o more than MS O. ;-) )/
On my PC I have OO.o 2.2, Office XP, Trialversion of MS Office 2007.
There isn´t any problems with this configuration... but if you are short
of harddisk-space.... so it is perhaps an alternative...

I've just found out about 'Open Office' and it sounds good but one question:
Like most, I have the ubiquitous MS Office suite on my pc. What then do I do
with that when I install Open Office, delete it altogether? That sounds very
precipitous to say the least but it WOULD be liberating! Can I delete all of
MS Office 2000 from my computer?
