Hello Open Office people
I am writing to you because my family and I are VERY, VERY
interestested in using your software, specially since we can't afford
to spend the $200 microsoft office cost
However this is our issue:
I have downloaded the installation file
OOo_2.2.1_Win32Intel_install_wJRE_en-US.exe three (3x) times and still
can not get the installation going.
After the downloading is completed I try to open the exe file and
always get this window :
NSIS Error
The installer you are trying to use is corrupted or incomplete.
This could be the result of a damage disk, a failed download or a virus.
You may want to contact the author of the installer to obtain a new copy.
It may be possible to skip this check using the /NCRC command line
switch (NOT RECOMMENDED)
OK
I have tried to downloaded to 3 different pc's windows xp service pack 2
I use a dial up modem and it takes me 8-10 hours to complete the download
I ran the antivirus program and pc are clean
I de-activated the antivirus program when attempting the installations
I used internet explorer 7 in 2 ocacions and Firefox in one ocasion to
download and got the same results
The cookies, history and temporary files were clean and deleted on the
2nd and 3rd ocasions
The installshield was deleted from the C:/program files/common files
on the 3rd ocasion
Downloading its always been done at night, the connection never is
halted or terminated or re-conneted, as I mentioned it takes me 8-10 hrs.
There is not problem downloading any other program or file.
I don't have any problems installing any other program, i log as
administrator
I have a suggetion or favor to ask you guys, Can you send us a copy of
the program so that we can installed, use it and provide you with
feedback, suggestions, new ideas, etc

First, please try the software described at
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301 to clean your system's registry;
a corrupt registry is often the cause of NSIS errors; also ensure that
your AV software is turned off during installation. Are you sure you
turned off *all* your AV software. Microsoft's firewall frequently
causes software installation errors so it's worth turning that (or any
other firewall) off too. *Beware*: please disconnect your computer
completely from the internet before turning off your firewall and/or AV
software and don't reconnect till they are both running properly again.
Never leave your computer unprotected when it is connected to the net.
If that doesn't help check that the file you downloaded is not corrupt.
To do this, use the MD5sum checking procedure described at
http://www.openoffice.org/dev_docs/using_md5sums.html
The relevant correct values are at
http://download.openoffice.org/2.2.1/md5sums.html
If that doesn't help, you can buy OpenOffice on CD from any of the
vendors listed on a page linked to from the download page. Expect to
pay not much more than USD/GBP 10 to cover the cost of producing the CD
plus P&P. Please note that we are not affiliated to any of these vendors
and that we provide no recommendations or guarantees. Alternatively,
OpenOffice is included on many of the CDs/DVDs that come free with
computer magazines; just ensure you choose a version that's compatible
with your Operating System.
Lastly, this is a public e-mail list read by many hundreds of people,
copied to at least one public news group and archived in a public place.
You may therefore decide not to include personal details such as postal
address and phone number.
