Hello there,

I would like to encourage that a priority be placed on updating the database portion of OO, especially the report generator. As it is now, it is almost useless. It creates report forms that make the data look like muck, all fields squished together on a row. Also, report layouts are hard to edit, not as nice as the form portion for inputing data. Why not link the two, and as default have the data print in the same, or similar manner as the input form. With the report generator, it should also have a feature to break printing in such a way as not the break apart a record, so having to flip between two pages wont happen to see the whole record.

After the report portion is done, please add a simple programming language like Dbase had. A language that allows SQL commands and a way to format input and output. It should also allow for multiple database to be open at the same time like Dbase. The reason I am asking for a language similar to Dbase, is its easy to use by the widest audience, especially by people who are generally not programmers. Once a basic foundation of a language is laid, more functionality can be added to allow for more sophisticated capabilities. It would also be nice, to have a feature that would generate quick and dirty code to accomplish common tasks: searches, quick sorted printouts, compacting a database and reindexing - similar to macros, but with code I can get to and find tune or edit.

Thank You for taking the time to read my comment and suggestion. If nothing else, the reports is something I really need to help convince a small private company to switch to OO and strongly encourage them to donate money to such a worthwhile venture.

Richard Boettner.

PS: is there some sort of training in learning about features I may not be using or understanding?

Thanks, I love OO!

Hi Richard

I suggest you check out http://dba.openoffice.org/

Some of the documentation linked to there may help you, or you can consider subscribing to the dba mailing list and asking there. Or you can put in RFE's (requests for enhancement) in Issuezilla if you feel keen.

There do not seem to be many regular database users on the "users" list.
