I get round this by keeping the openoffice.org icon in the dock even
when the programme is not running and use that to load it
but I wonder if you are having a Another similar problem to me?
I too am new of openoffice and there do not seem too many people
using a mac.
If i have openoffice open but am using amother programme eg Mail and
then wan to switch back to OO I cannot do it by clicking on the icon
in the dock as nothing happens Has this happened to you

Late last week I downloaded OpenOffice.org 2.0 for Mac. I'm running
OSX 10.4.10 on a new iMac. When I try to open the software, it
opens,
but there is nothing I can do. My menu has "OpenOffic.org", "File" &
"Edit", but nothing else, and nothing beyond the menu. I do have X11
(I don't understand what it is, really.)
Any suggestions how to get up and running?

Does "File" -> "New" -> "Text Document" work for you ?
That's not the issue here -
After you start OpenOffice.org, click the X11 icon on the dock, and
if you don't
see OOo running, you'll find it listed under the Window menu.
X11 is a window system that allows you to run many GUI applications
that were
made for Linux/Unix and not OS X.
