I can't make my Writer macros work in Calc either; Calc sees my macros
but nothing happens when I run them. Perhaps someone else here can explain.
However, assuming you are using Windows try one of these:

Both of these will work with pretty much *any* Windows program including
Outlook Express etc. etc.
I have tried the first. It "just works". Read the installation
instructions *carefully* though. They are completely accurate but
describe a procedure that you might not be familiar with and, for me at
least (a fairly experienced Windows user), contained some unusual steps.
I have not tried the second method because I found the first method first.
