The Hebrew word for Shalom is spelled molahs. Howcan It be corrected so
that the words a spelled correctly. It is no fun spelling Hebrew words
backwards in order to read them correctly?

Your problem is a puzzle. OpenOffice.org Writer normally handles Hebrew properly, automatically reversing sentences in Hebrew or Arabic or other right-to-left scripts so that you can even mix text in English and Hebrew and this text will come out in the proper direction for each language without the user doing anything extra.

Perhaps if you advise what operating system (Windows, Macintosh, Linux, etc.) you are using and the version of that system that might shed some light on the matter.

Also, if you are using an old non-Unicode font, then OpenOffice.org Writer may well present the characters as they appear in the font but will not know they are Hebrew and so will not know display them in right-to-left order.

Try searching in Google on "Hebrew fonts unicode" to find good free Unicode Hebrew fonts or fonts that contain Hebrew. The ones from SIL have a good reputation. Also, a large number of Windows fonts such as Times New Roman and Courier New have contained suitable Hebrew characters for about 10 years now.
