I used Writer, and I never used any other package than
Writer, before that Word, and before that Wordperfect.
I did no know that Draw had a business card template.
My cards usually have a graphic along with the text.
I do know some packages I "tried" claimed that you need to do one
card and the rest will automatically be filled in during printing,
but those types of programs never worked for me. So, I create
the first one and copy/paste to the next 9 spots in the standard
business card templates.
Will try Draw to see how it works. I have not used it for a while
since most of my "drawing" is done through Corel and Adobe products
and I use OOo for the Text and Database stuff.

You might also consider doing Business Cards in Draw instead of
Writer.....
(Cant tell if you are using draw or writer from your message....)
I have had a great deal of success using a bizcard template in OODraw.

I was working on a business on some business cards for a
non-profit society BUT there was/is a big problem with Writer.
All text in the business card is Black and White. Even cards created
and saved in MS Word (2003 as a *.doc) that has colored text, shows up
as B/W text
when I open it in Writer.
Does anyone know why OOo will not show color for the business
card format?
Also when I try to add color to the text in Writer - does not work.
Color pictures do show its color, it is just the text.
Word is such a problem to use, but I have to use it if OOo will
not allow me to have colored text.

Did you try printing, or saving to a .pdf file? The colors may actually
be there. This may just be a problem with the Accessibility options
using automatic color for all text display, which you don't want. In
en-US locale: Tools | Options | OpenOffice.org | Accessibility |
Options
for high contrast appearance | Use automatic font color for screen
display.
