Well, I know I wrote something like "the stupid man", but of course I didn't
really mean that he is stupid. He's a chemist and I am sure he is good at
that and some other things as well. Maybe "stupid" wasn't the best choice of
a word in this case, there are probably a better word for it. He's maybe not
even "ignorant". Maybe "uninformed" would describe him in this very case,
but that sounds a bit lame... ;P Well, he is certainly a better chemist
than I am...

Perhaps brainwashed? Look at all those who still believe in religion, despite all the contradictory evidence and precious little that supports it.

I'd say that it's more like common association like 'Xerox' for copier,
'Kleenex' for tissue, etc. Just yesterday I read an article in the news
paper (yes I still subscribe to dead wood) where Stanford University
served kids identical food articles from McDonalds. On every item the
kids chose the item packaged in the standard McDonalds wrappers as the
best tasting, even though they were identical.

I heard about that too. However, when it comes to things like Xerox and Kleenex, most people at least realize there are alternatives. In computers, there are many who know nothing other than MS, at least as far as operating systems go. In fact, many years ago, someone tried telling me it was illegal to sell a computer without Windows!
