Ok, OO is the default. I only have the trial version of Word which came with
the comp when I bought it.
Here is what I am noticing. Any saved documents I am able to open. It seems
to be documents that aren't saved which I cannot open. For ex. I cannot open
any of my assignments. Cannot open any kind of doc's, ppt, or anything I try
to open or download that I have not saved. I don't know how else to answer
this is the best I could do.

What sort of document are you trying to open? Where did it come from?

How are you opening the document? Are you double clicking on it, or are
you running OpenOffice and then doing File>Open? If the second, then I'm
a bit stumped.

When you installed OO, did you say that you wanted it to be the default
program for opening Word documents? Did you also uninstall Word?
If the answer to #1 is No and to #2 is Yes, then there's your problem:
Windows is trying to find Word and can't.

What do you mean "... or download a doc"?
