then you will notice that additional Asian format options will be
available on your Format (para/char) options.

Format|Paragraph|Alignment|Properties - Text direction|Left-to-right

However, I do not believe you will be able to go from vertical to
horizontal unless the kanji is in a frame. If you turn on show paragraph
marks, you'll probably see that there is a mark after each vertical
character. If so, your stuck copy & pasting each character into a
horizontal line.
