It sounds as if your granddaughter may have found this bug:

or perhaps CVE-2006-5870: WMF/EMF Processing Failures

Please have your granddaughter: 1) run full antivirus scans on her
computer, and 2) update to the latest version of OpenOffice (2.2.1).
