Do you mean just to see if it works or for test purpose, or do you mean that he always always should be doing that?
Because he clearly said that he only use OpenOffice.org because his publisher does, which means that he wants to save in the OpenDocument format, which he can't do in Word, right? Just trying to understand his problem and your suggestion in learning purpose.
