About the TOC, I did some work with a friend a while ago. I used
OpenOffice.org Writer and he used Word. I did most of the writing and I also
did the TOC thing. To be compatible with Word (since those who would read
our document only had Word) I tried to export the whole thing to Word.
However, all pictures and stuff made all page breaks wrong so I think there
were 2 pages more in Word than in OpenOffice.org and the TOC was simplified
in Word format (the same contents, but different formatting). So I opened
the document in Word and tried to make it all look exactly as the original
OpenOffice.org document. It was IMPOSSIBLE! Especially the TOC. The
formatting of the TOC that I needed (or rather WANTED) to do was just
impossible in Word, so the reason for OpenOffice.irg to simplify the TOC's
formatting was obviously that some features were missing in Word. I even
completely removed the TOC in Word and tried to build a new one from
scratch, in Word. Still impossible. So I just made the best out of it, so
the Word file looked acceptable and then I made a PDF from the original
OpenOffice.org file, telling the receivers of the file that they'd better
open the PDF and only use the DOC if they need to edit the file.

Maybe Word (2002) could do exactly what I wanted, but in that case it was
not very intuitive, because I spent hours and even days trying to figure out
how and I still don't know. In OpenOffice.org I figured it out in minutes.

So just forget about Word and tell everyone to switch to
OpenOffice.orginstead, at least if you really want to do nice TOCs...
:)

Or do as you want, I don't care. I don't even know why I write this in the
first place, I must be nuts. But I just hate when people say that "I have to
use this and that because everybody else do" (I know you didn't say that, I
am speaking generally now...). I personally hate to do what everybody else
do. If they can't read my documents, maybe my documents were not made for
them... All they have to do is just to download a free program (not
necessarily OpenOffice.org), install and run it. How hard can it be? Just
like I start my computer with Windows instead of my default OS (Linux) and
download and install PowerPoint Viewer if I really want to view a PowerPoint
file that doesn't work in Impress. I can always remove it when I'm done.
It's a computer, not a rock. I can just download and install any free
software or virus I like (or dislike)... And if my computer gets affected by
a virus (which it never will, since I am not THAT kind of idiot), will I
die? I don't think so. That could only happen if MY BODY gets infected by a
virus...

Well, I know that you got tired of reading this shit quite a few lines ago,
so I can write whatever I like here... or just stop writing and do something
useful instead.
