From what I understand, the few features unavailable in OOo that are
available in Star Office are not of major importance for most users.

A 'new thing'/extension is SunSearchToolbar.oxt ("powered by Google" -
77 KB) ->
...\Sun\StarOffice_8\share\uno_packages\cache\uno_packages\<xy>.tmp_\SunSearchToolbar.oxt
as an integrated document-, desktop- and websearch
(... it will be necessary to take out time to see more ... btw, it was
not difficult - perhaps not legal - to import it in OOo 2.2.1 ... for
a try ...).

The
really important question is that posed by Manfred - what will be the effect
on MS Office, or rather, that suites nearly total dominance of the corporate
market. If Google's backing of the Star Office suite can contribute to
destroying this hegemony, it will be of great service to us all, both users
of OOo, users of MS Office, and those who use both....

For those ones, who are interested in these and further aspects -
here is 'a beginning of some stuff' ->
