I tried using FTP about a year ago, and wasn't successful so I sent my web
pages to someone else who uploaded them for me. But perhaps I didn't
understand what to do well enough. Is there a place I can get clear
information on this?

Yes you can with a File Transfer Protocol (FTP) client. Do you
understand what FTP is and how to use a FTP client?
