Under tools > options > openoffice.org > memory there is an option to 'load openoffice during system startup'... If you select this then the quickstarter will load when you start the PC. Only some functions within OOo require java. You can operate ok with out them. If you do want it however go to 'tools > options > openoffice.org > java' it will search your PC and advise your installed JVM's. From there, select the latest version in the list (and OK). If nothing is populated (it may take a little time), then you can download the latest JVM (from www.sun.com) and install normally.
