Reload each program into OpenOffice, then "SAVE AS", select type as Word
Document (choice of 97, 95, or older, whichever is best for you), then
click SAVE.
Be sure in the future to do this. If you load a .doc into OO and then
save, it will default to .odt. There is a warning, asking if you are
SURE you want to save as some other format, but if the warning gets
turned off it will always save as .odt.
As far as getting rid of OO, if you are on Windoze just use the standard
Control Panel->Uninstall.
Of course if it were me I'd rather uninstall Word and keep everything in
.odt files in OO, but I suspect that's not what you want :-)

I am a teacher and I down loaded Open Office on my computer. Now all my WORD
documents are OPEN OFFICE documents, and I can't open them in WORD;
I can't wait for a week to rectify this problem. Please tell me what I need to
do to get that program deactivated or removed and have my WORD documents again
be WORD so I can open them.
I had no idea that would happen and I'm in trouble.
