I have a problem with OpenOffice.org Calc 2.2.0 on Kubuntu 7.04 Feisty
Fawn. It is so slow it is virtually unusable. I'm hoping for som help here.
I have 3 similarly equiped PCs running Kubuntu. One of them, my desktop
at home, is still running Kubuntu 6.06 with OOo 2.0.2. The other 2 PCs,
my notebook and my desktop at work both run Kubuntu Feisty 7.04 with OOo
2.2.0. At home using OOo 2.0.2 I can open a spreadsheet in under 3
seconds. When I click the upper left corner to select the entire
spreadsheet, selection is instant. No delay at all. I can navigate
around the spreadsheet without any delay or latency. Everything works
fine. On both my notebook PC and my desktop at work running Feisty 7.04
with OOo 2.2.0 the same spreadsheet takes 30 seconds to open. Doing the
same procedure as above to select all takes 9 minutes, yes minutes.
Navigating around the spreadsheet is so slow I have to stop constantly
to let the sheet catch up with me. This makes OOo Calc pretty much
unusable for me. Problem is, the other 2 or 3 Linux spreadsheet
applications lack features I need.
Most of my spreadsheets are .csv format and range from about 400 rows to
just over 3500 rows and 26 columns. The spreadsheet example above is 445
rows, 15 columns and 719K.
My home desktop PC is a 4 year old clone P4 2.4 GHz with 2 GB RAM
Kubuntu 6.06
My work desktop PC is a Dell Optiplex GX52 Pentium D 3.2 GHz with 3 GB
RAM Kubuntu Feisty 7.04
My notebook PC is an HP nc8230 Pentium Centrino 1.87 GZ with 2 GB RAM
and Kubuntu Feisty 7.04.
Thanks for any help with this,
Rick Knight
