That is because you are using FreeBSD which requires manual 
configuration on just about everything. There are a lot of Linux 
Distros that automated most configurations. This makes it easy for 
the average person to install and use the OS.

I know FreeBSD does not call itself Linux but Unix like. I installed 
FreeBSD 6.2 on a VM.
